the things you didn't know you liked

i am constantly telling people
i have the things you didn't know you liked
it is sort of my motto
a pretty good motto if you ask me
even if you don't ask me
don't change the fact that the motto is good
thought i would take a few minutes today
and actually show some stuff that you might not know about
and just might like
so i walked a bit around the store
and i looked at the music, the films and the books
and i chose 2 of each
not easy to choose må du tro
but i figure...i can do this once in a while
until i have covered the entire collection
so none of the music or films or books
feels overlooked
one of my new favo types of music is avant folk
acid folk...psychedelic folk...all sorta same
but avant sounds more cool
so damn much...so damn much GREAT stuff coming from that genre
one group worth checking out is SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE
"If Brakkhage worked with sound in a bizzare experiment with Harry Partch, and the lyrical musings of Emily Dickinson were the inspiration for the lyrics- revised and scratched onto a gas station restroom wall; then you'd be close to knowing what this record might perform on your soul".
that is how four winds the walker is described....a pretty damn good description if you ask me
"part muzak, part dada comedy, part I Dream of Jeannie, with a running commentary by The Doopees, two Japanese doll women named Suzie and Caroline"
if that sounds interesting....then make sure to check out THE DOOPEES
doopee time. hap hap happy music plain and simple.
JIM WOODRING is an artist you should know about. his comic FRANK is an underground classic with some of the most hypnotizing artwork you can imagine. pupshaw and pushpaw is a wordless piece of art for both kids and adults
tango for a torturer by daniel chavarria is something so unique as a cuban crime novel written by an uruguayan who loves classical literature and prostitutes....a fine combo
off the charts is perfect for todays list.
a documentary all about the song-poem dream...people who have written some of the most amazing texts and are now hoping to have them put to music so that their dreams of fame and fortune can be realized
they won't be!
lastly....one of my very favorite films ever. tampopo is what i guess we call a japanese noodle western. colorful, entertaining...unique.
pretty much the way i would describe my baba... just add beautiful and one helluva cook
