thee films 1950s-1960 william s burroughs
Writer William S Burroughs' collaboration with artist Brion Gysin and film-maker Anthony Balch resulted in a series of experimental films, including Towers Open Fire, which attempts to capture the essence of Burroughs' writing in filmic form, and The Cut Ups, a piece in which a finished film was cut up into foot long strips and re-assembled at random. "Life is a cut up," wrote Burroughs. "As soon as you walk down the street your consciousness is being cut by random factors. The cut-up ins closer to the facts of human perception than linear narrative."
This collection features all the films made through the collaboration of Burroughs, Gysin and Balch in the 50s and 60s, as well as a 50 minute film, Ghosts at No.9, a montage using Burroughs' 'cut up' technique with music supplied by Genesis.
